About Me
My name is Anne Asher, and I have created Your Gardening Body to share my odyssey into becoming a gardener.
I am a holistic health practitioner, body worker and movement therapist. I’ve spent a good many years teaching core strengthening and alignment principles to people with chronic musculoskeletal pain, and have worked with all types of people in clinics, gyms, schools and in private practice. Before I got into movement therapy, I was a clinical and sports massage therapist. In my private practice I create and teach therapeutic exercise programs, and recently fell into creating and teaching workshops for gardeners. It was so much fun, and the people I taught were so responsive I decided to make “a thing” of it. I’ve also delivered presentations on holistic body therapies to medical professionals and organizations.
I consider myself to be a health educator (although I am not credentialed with an MPH). I have worked on tobacco education campaigns, helped developed community health education programs (mostly mental health), and coordinated several preventative health projects for an elementary school. I’ve recently completed a graduate level course in epidemiology at the local medical college.
I am the Back and Neck Pain Guide on About.com, a New York Times web property, and a consumer reviewer for the Cochrane Back Group. I’ve written a series of articles about Common Gardening Chores and Your Back for About.com. I also provide expert comment on back pain and holistic therapies for the press. Past gigs include Conde Nast’s Easy Living Magazine in the U.K. (print), and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Online’s Dig In blog.
